2017 Abrigo Giovanni Barolo "Ravera", Piedmont, Italy - 1.5L MAG
ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from the esteemed Ravera cru in Novello—one of Barolo’s most celebrated sites—this 100% Nebbiolo reflects both the vineyard’s altitude and its calcareous clay soils, which contribute to wines of structure, precision, and aromatic complexity. The 2017 vintage, shaped by a warm growing season, yields a wine of concentration and intensity while maintaining Nebbiolo’s hallmark acidity.
The nose is deeply expressive, offering classic notes of dried rose, red cherry, and orange peel alongside hints of tar, tobacco, and crushed herbs. Traditional vinification methods are employed, with extended maceration to extract structure and aging in large oak casks (botti) to preserve the purity of fruit while allowing for gradual development.
On the palate, the wine is robust and age-worthy, with firm tannins that frame flavors of red fruit, spice, and earthy minerality. Despite its power, there is a lifted quality that brings balance and freshness. The magnum format (1.5L) enhances its aging potential, allowing the wine to evolve more slowly and gracefully over time. Ideal pairings include braised meats, truffle dishes, game, and aged cheeses.
