2018 Mastroberardino “Stilèma” Taurasi Riserva, Campania, Italy

ABOUT THIS WINE

Stilèma is Mastroberardino’s homage to the historic style of Taurasi—built on longevity, finesse, and terroir expression. Sourced from estate vineyards in Montemarano and Mirabella Eclano, this 100% Aglianico comes from high-elevation, volcanic soils and is aged to emphasize elegance over extraction. The 2018 vintage was balanced and long, allowing for full phenolic ripeness while preserving freshness.

Fermentation occurs in stainless steel with extended maceration, followed by aging for 30 months in a combination of large Slavonian casks and neutral French oak, then refined further in bottle. The wine reveals dark fruit, tobacco, dried herbs, and hints of iron and ash—hallmarks of Taurasi’s unique volcanic terroir.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Mastroberardino is one of Southern Italy’s most iconic and historically significant wineries, credited with preserving ancient Campanian varieties like Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco after WWII. Based in Irpinia, the family has led the charge in demonstrating the age-worthiness and nobility of wines from Campania’s volcanic highlands. The Stilèma project, led by Piero Mastroberardino, is a return to the estate’s traditional stylistic roots—focused on purity, restraint, and authenticity. The Taurasi Riserva is a flagship of this vision: powerful, elegant, and unmistakably Irpinian.
