2018 Neyen "Espíritu De Apalta", Colchagua Valley, Chile

ABOUT THIS WINE

Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Carmenere (50%).

One of the best wines from Chile, highly rated by the world's most important critics. The vines in this area are about 130 years old. Aged in French barrels for 14 months, followed by another 6 months in large barrels to integrate the wine flavors before bottling. Cabernet Sauvignon provides for the power, longevity and the richness, and Carmenere adds silkiness and softness.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

The Neyen vineyard in the Apalta Valley is set apart by nature, wedged between the Andes Mountains, the Coastal Range, and the Tinguiririca River's old terraces. The Apalta terroir is known for a unique energy that the locals call “Neyen, the spirit of Apalta”. The much-acclaimed wines are produced from ungrafted old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère found in the ancient vineyard site with pre-Phylloxera vines. The Cabernet vineyard was planted in 1890, and in 1936, Carménère vines were added. The vineyards are entirely organic and hand-harvested, resulting in a powerful and well-balanced wine with the concentration of Napa and the length of the greatest Old World wines. Neyen is truly an icon of Chilean winemaking.
