2018 Pinea "Pinea", Ribera del Duero, Spain
ABOUT THIS WINE
The flagship wine of Bodegas Pinea, the 2018 Pinea is sourced from high-elevation vineyards near the village of Olmedillo de Roa in the heart of Ribera del Duero. These mature bush-trained vines, many over 80 years old, are planted at 900+ meters above sea level in rocky clay-limestone soils that yield low but intensely concentrated fruit. The grapes are harvested by hand, then fermented in small stainless steel tanks before aging for 24 months in new French oak barrels. The wine reveals a powerful core of black fruit, licorice, roasted espresso, and sweet tobacco, all balanced by freshness and a lifted mineral undertone. Designed for aging but polished enough to enjoy now, it pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, aged Manchego, or hearty mushroom dishes.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Bodegas Pinea was founded with a clear vision: to produce world-class wines that capture the soul of Ribera del Duero’s high-altitude terroir. Established by Vicente Pliego and Hugo Del Pozzo, the project brings together traditional viticulture and modern precision, with a focus on old vines, minimal intervention, and sustainable farming practices. Under the guidance of winemaker Isaac Fernandez, one of Spain’s most respected enologists, Pinea crafts wines of structure, elegance, and site expression. Their meticulous approach—low yields, hand selection, gravity-flow processes—yields powerful yet refined wines that speak to both the history and evolving potential of the region.
