2021 Az. Agr. Fratelli Cigliuti Barbaresco "Serraboella", Piedmont, Italy
ABOUT THE WINE
Serraboella is one of Neive’s most esteemed vineyard sites, known for producing Barbaresco wines of intensity, structure, and longevity. Its calcareous-clay soils and favorable exposures contribute to Nebbiolo’s aromatic complexity and tannic precision, yielding wines that are both powerful and refined.
The 2021 vintage in Piedmont is widely regarded for its balance and clarity, combining excellent phenolic ripeness with vibrant natural acidity. Grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve purity and site expression, followed by extended aging in large oak casks and/or neutral barrels. This approach softens the tannins while allowing the vineyard character to remain front and center.
Expect layered flavors of red currant, cranberry, dried rose, tobacco leaf, and hints of tar and balsamic. While structured in youth, the wine reveals increasing nuance with air and promises graceful evolution over the next 10–15 years. Ideal pairings include braised meats, porcini risotto, roasted lamb, and aged cheeses.
