2020 Comando G “Las Iruelas”, Sierra de Gredos, Spain

ABOUT THIS WINE

Sourced from one of Comando G’s most iconic single vineyards, Las Iruelas lies high in the Sierra de Gredos mountains, where old Garnacha vines grow on a mosaic of granite, slate, schist, quartz, and clay soils. At elevations nearing 1,000 meters, this site yields fruit of exceptional energy and clarity, resulting in a wine that seamlessly blends mountain freshness with deep-rooted intensity.

The 2020 vintage shows remarkable aromatic complexity: red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate merge with notes of lavender, crushed rock, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is elegant and precise, with bright acidity framing its pure fruit, while a mineral core lends structure and a tactile sense of place. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts, and aging takes place in large oak foudres and concrete, preserving purity and textural finesse without masking the site’s expression.

A wine of impressive aging potential, Las Iruelas can be enjoyed young for its vivid aromatics and vibrant texture or cellared to reveal further depth and nuance. It pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, game birds, charred root vegetables, mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Comando G was founded by Daniel Landi and Fernando García, two visionary growers dedicated to elevating Garnacha through a lens of terroir, sustainability, and minimal intervention. Working in the rugged, high-altitude zones of Sierra de Gredos, their mission is to recover old-vine plots—often abandoned—and to craft wines that are transparent expressions of place.

Their approach to viticulture is rooted in biodynamics and regenerative farming, focusing on vine health, biodiversity, and respect for the natural ecosystem. In the cellar, they favor gentle extractions, native fermentations, and aging in neutral vessels to let the vineyards speak for themselves.

Comando G’s wines are known for their balance, finesse, and mountain-born intensity. They’ve become a benchmark for the modern Spanish Garnacha movement, offering wines that rival fine Burgundy or Northern Rhône in their elegance and emotional impact—always with a distinctly Iberian soul.
