2020 David Duband Grand Cru "Clos de Vougeot", Burgundy, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

Clos de Vougeot is the largest Grand Cru in the Côte de Nuits, and its varied soils and exposures yield wines of structure and depth. David Duband’s parcel lies in the upper portion of the vineyard, where thinner topsoil and more limestone contribute to finesse and minerality. The 2020 vintage brought ripe, healthy fruit with excellent natural balance and concentration.

Grapes are organically farmed and harvested by hand. Fermentation includes a high proportion of whole clusters and native yeasts, followed by aging in French oak barrels (around 40% new) for 16–18 months. The wine is bottled with minimal sulfur and no fining or filtration.

Expect layered flavors of dark red fruit, rose petal, tea leaf, and crushed rock, with a firm tannic spine and great length. Best enjoyed with time—cellar for 8–20 years or decant well in advance.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

David Duband is part of the new wave of Burgundy vignerons who blend traditional techniques with a modern sensitivity toward freshness, vineyard expression, and organic farming. Based in Chevannes, he works with top sites across the Côte de Nuits and has become known for his use of whole cluster fermentation, resulting in wines of aromatic lift and structural finesse. His Clos de Vougeot is a benchmark—serious, nuanced, and true to its Grand Cru pedigree.
