2020 Ganevat Côtes du Jura Chardonnay “Les Grands Teppes Vieilles Vignes”, Jura, France

ABOUT THE WINE

Crafted from Chardonnay vines planted in 1919 and 1920 on marl-rich soils in the “Les Grands Teppes” lieu-dit, this cuvée is a pure reflection of old-vine depth and Jura’s unique terroir. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised for over two years in neutral oak without any additions—including no sulfur at bottling—this wine epitomizes Ganevat’s low-intervention, terroir-first approach. The nose unfolds with citrus peel, orchard fruit, hazelnut, and a distinct chalky minerality, while the palate offers a vivid interplay between bright acidity and creamy texture, wrapped in a subtle oxidative veil that adds complexity without overwhelming freshness.

Ganevat allows each parcel to speak clearly through extended aging and minimalist cellar work, and Les Grands Teppes is among his most structured and age-worthy expressions. It’s a compelling companion to alpine cheeses, shellfish, roasted poultry, or earthy mushroom dishes.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Jean-François Ganevat, often hailed as one of Jura’s most influential vignerons, blends Burgundian training with a deeply rooted respect for Jura’s traditions and terroirs. After years at Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet, he returned to his family’s estate in La Combe de Rotalier and transformed it into a benchmark for natural wine excellence. The estate has been biodynamic since 2006, and all wines are vinified without additives, with many cuvées bottled sans soufre. Ganevat’s meticulous farming, micro-parcel vinifications, and unwavering dedication to purity and authenticity have earned him cult status among sommeliers and collectors alike.
