2021 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Burgundy, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

Manual harvesting with grape sorting and optimization of choice of date through parcel-by-parcel ripeness monitoring. Long, gentle pneumatic pressing, decanting over 24 hours, then racking and running into cask of the must. Alcoholic fermentation in oak casks, 25% new. After 12 months in cask, the wine is aged 6 months in tank where it is prepared for bottling. Vine age ranges from 32-60 years.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

These wines come from the vines of the family estate, in the historic center of Puligny-Montrachet, and have been vinified rue de l'Eglise for more than a century. First the grands crus: these are rare wines, among the most in demand in the world, such as those of Montrachet with its 300 bottles produced each year. These appellations form a living heritage, renewed each year by the unexpected and the magic of vintages.

In addition to four grands crus, Domaine Leflaive offers five premiers crus, including a Meursault Sous le Dos d’Âne, on the edge of Puligny-Montrachet, and a Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie. These two prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Beaune, which enshrine Puligny, offer more diversity of expression than is usually characterized. In addition, there is a Village cuvée and a Bourgogne regional appellation cuvée.
