2021 Loimer "Loiserberg" Riesling, Kamptal, Austria
ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from the terraced, high-elevation Loiserberg vineyard just outside the town of Langenlois, this Riesling benefits from a combination of mica schist and weathered gneiss soils, lending it a distinct mineral character. The 2021 vintage was marked by a cool, slow-growing season that preserved acidity and aromatics, resulting in an exceptionally detailed and balanced wine.
After hand-harvesting and whole-cluster pressing, fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine rests on its fine lees for several months, gaining texture while maintaining clarity and freshness. Aromatically vibrant, the wine offers notes of citrus blossom, crushed stone, and orchard fruit, with an herbal edge that adds complexity. Pair it with sushi, Thai green curry, or grilled river fish with lemon and herbs.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Fred Loimer is a leading voice in Austria’s biodynamic movement and one of Kamptal’s most respected winemakers. Based in Langenlois, his estate practices Demeter-certified biodynamic viticulture across all vineyards, emphasizing biodiversity, soil health, and non-interventionist methods both in the vineyard and the cellar.
Loimer's approach is rooted in precision, authenticity, and respect for terroir. His wines are known for their clarity, structure, and age-worthiness, and his single-vineyard bottlings—such as the "Loiserberg" Riesling—offer some of the most expressive and transparent snapshots of the Kamptal’s varied soils and exposures. Combining modern sensibility with traditional craftsmanship, Loimer consistently produces wines that are both intellectually engaging and deeply pleasurable to drink.
