2024 Julien Cécillon Syrah “Graviers”, Northern Rhône, France 1.5L MAG
ABOUT THIS WINE
The 2024 “Graviers” is a Northern Rhône Syrah that defies appellation boundaries to highlight site over status. Sourced from multiple parcels—mostly granitic and gravelly soils across Saint-Joseph-adjacent sites—this cuvée showcases the aromatic lift, spice, and mineral clarity of Syrah grown on Rhône’s ancient slopes.
Farming is sustainable, with organic practices guiding the vineyard work and an emphasis on hand harvesting. In the cellar, Julien Cécillon employs a gentle, low-intervention approach: partial whole cluster fermentation with native yeasts, minimal extraction, and élevage in mostly neutral oak for around 12 months. The result is a wine of freshness, layered perfume, and silky texture. The 2024 vintage brings particular brightness and finesse, making it especially vivid in magnum format. Pair with grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, or lentils and rosemary sausage.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Julien Cécillon, along with his wife Nancy, launched their eponymous domaine in 2011 with a vision to produce small-lot, terroir-driven wines that honor both heritage and innovation. A nephew of famed Rhône winemaker Jean-Louis Grippat, Julien brings deep regional knowledge and a modern, minimalist sensibility to the cellar.
Based in Tournon-sur-Rhône, the domaine farms vineyards across the Northern Rhône—principally in Saint-Joseph and around Ardèche—using organic practices and a hands-off approach in the winery. Their wines are known for clarity, restraint, and finesse rather than power, reflecting a philosophy rooted in transparency and trust in nature. “Graviers” is a hallmark of their range: expressive, unpretentious, and true to the cool, stony character of Syrah in its purest form.
