2022 Domaine La Soufrandière Pouilly-Fuissé En Chatenay "Cuvée Zen", Burgundy France

ABOUT THE WINE
“Cuvée Zen” is a special bottling from the lieu-dit En Chatenay, located on the high slopes above Vergisson, where old vines (planted in 1986) dig deep into Jurassic limestone soils. Farmed biodynamically and Demeter-certified, this Chardonnay is vinified and aged with minimal intervention to preserve its vitality and sense of place. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed, with fermentation and aging carried out in older oak barrels to enhance texture without overt influence. Unlike the estate’s traditional bottlings, the “Zen” cuvée undergoes no added sulfur at any stage—a bold move resulting in an extraordinarily pure and vibrant wine with lifted aromatics and electric energy. Pair with dishes like seared scallops, fresh goat cheese, or sashimi for a harmony of texture and nuance.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Domaine La Soufrandière is the Mâconnais-based estate of the Bret Brothers—Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume—who have become champions of biodynamic farming and terroir-focused winemaking in southern Burgundy. Since taking over the family vineyards in 2000, the brothers have transformed La Soufrandière into a beacon of ecological stewardship and precision winemaking. Every parcel is farmed with deep respect for the land, using only natural preparations, cover cropping, and lunar cycles to guide vineyard work. In the cellar, their philosophy is minimal intervention—long lees aging, native fermentations, and a patient, intuitive approach to élevage. Wines like the “Cuvée Zen” are emblematic of their pursuit of vibrancy, clarity, and soulful expression in every bottle.
