2023 Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 1er Cru "Forêts", Burgundy, France
ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from the Forêts climat within the Montmains Premier Cru sector, this 100% Chardonnay is rooted in Kimmeridgian limestone soils that impart both structure and a distinct mineral signature. “Forêts” is typically more powerful and concentrated than Montmains, offering a deeper and more layered expression of Chablis.
The 2023 vintage highlights both ripeness and tension, yielding a wine that balances expressive fruit with a firm, mineral backbone. Aromas of citrus, apple, and pear are complemented by subtle floral tones and a pronounced flinty character. Domaine Moreau-Naudet farms sustainably and works with a low-intervention approach, using native yeast fermentations and aging in stainless steel and neutral vessels to preserve site transparency.
On the palate, the wine shows impressive depth and intensity, with a broader mid-palate than its Montmains counterpart while maintaining freshness and drive. The acidity is vibrant, supporting flavors of citrus, stone fruit, and chalky minerality that build toward a long, persistent, saline finish. This structure and concentration make it ideal for richer seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops, or turbot, as well as poultry in cream-based sauces.
