2023 Aurélien Chatagnier Saint-Joseph "La Sybarite", Rhône Valley, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

Syrah vines at least 30 years old, located in the communes  of Ardoix, Charnas, Malleval, and Limony. They are situated on granitic soils, with a south/southeast exposure.

Grapes are hand-harvested, fully destemmed, then fermented with natural yeasts, with one pump-over per day. This is followed by warm maceration (30-32°C) for approximately 3 weeks. Malolactic fermentation occurs in barrels. Finally, this wine completes its aging for one year in barrels, two-thirds of which are new.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Aurélien Chatagnier is one of the most talented young vignerons in the northern Rhône, having founded his eponymous domaine in 2002 at just 20 years old. Based in Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf near Condrieu, he works organically across several appellations, including Saint-Joseph, Cornas, and Côte-Rôtie. His approach is marked by precision, restraint, and respect for terroir—working with low yields, native yeasts, and minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar. Whole-cluster fermentation, used barrels, and a light hand define his style, yielding wines that are pure, elegant, and transparent. “La Sybarite” is a standout in his lineup: expressive yet poised, a Syrah that speaks softly but with conviction.
