2023 Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc, Burgundy, France
ABOUT THE WINE
Crafted from fruit sourced across esteemed parcels in the Côte d'Or—primarily from Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet—this Bourgogne Blanc punches well above its appellation. The 2023 vintage was shaped by a cool, balanced growing season that preserved freshness while allowing slow, even ripening. On the nose, the wine reveals layers of citrus zest, almond blossom, and wet limestone. The palate is finely tuned: pear, lemon curd, and a touch of saline minerality supported by a silky mid-palate and mouthwatering acidity. Aged in mostly neutral oak with a restrained use of new barrels (typically less than 15%), the wine maintains its purity and drive.
Leroux’s commitment to sustainable and organic farming, even across purchased fruit, is evident in the wine’s vibrancy and precision. Enjoy it with shellfish, chèvre, roast chicken, or even mildly spiced Asian dishes. This is a Bourgogne Blanc that behaves like a village wine, with clarity and terroir focus.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Benjamin Leroux is widely regarded as one of Burgundy’s most thoughtful and talented winemakers. After serving as the régisseur at Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard from a young age, he launched his own label in 2007 with the aim of producing site-expressive wines through meticulous sourcing and gentle, transparent winemaking. Operating as a micro-négociant, Leroux works only with growers who share his dedication to organic or biodynamic practices, and he increasingly manages many of these parcels himself.
His cellar philosophy favors minimal intervention: native yeasts, minimal SO₂, and measured oak usage ensure that each wine speaks of place. Though he produces a wide range of wines—from regional appellations to grand cru bottlings—his hallmark is the elegance, precision, and drinkability present even in his entry-level wines. The Bourgogne Blanc is a perfect introduction to Leroux’s touch: refined, terroir-driven, and utterly satisfying.
