2024 Ca’Marcanda “Vistamare” Toscana Bianco, Tuscany, Italy

ABOUT THIS WINE

Vistamare is a harmonious blend of Vermentino (≈40–70%), Viognier (≈20–40%), and Fiano (≈10–20%)—vinified separately to highlight each variety’s strengths. Typically, Vermentino undergoes fermentation in stainless steel (preserving freshness), Viognier in wood, and Fiano in concrete or larger oak, followed by ~6 months of élevage before blending.

The name “Vistamare,” meaning “sea view”, evokes the Maremma's coastal ambiance—bright sunlight, invigorating breezes, and maritime elegance—core elements that shape the wine’s character, even though the vineyards lie several miles inland.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Ca’Marcanda is the Bolgheri estate of the legendary Angelo Gaja, a pioneer in elevating Italian fine wine. Founded in 1996, Gaja selected the land for its prime terroir—clayey-calcareous soils at the foot of the Metalliferous Hills in Toscana’s Maremma region. Over time, Ca’Marcanda grew to nearly 80 hectares of vineyard, designed with precision and vision—etched by Angelo’s singular influence and guided today by the fifth generation of the Gaja family.

The estate's name, "Ca’Marcanda" (in Piedmontese dialect, “house of endless negotiations”), humorously references the lengthy, Italian-style discussions required to acquire the property. Ca’Marcanda is celebrated for its Super Tuscan expressions, including red blends like Promis, Magari, and Camarcanda—but Vistamare remains the estate’s sole white wine offering.
