2023 Domaine de Fa Saint-Amour “Côtes de Besset”, Beaujolais, France 1.5L MAG
ABOUT THIS WINE
Sourced from steep, southeast-facing granite and schist slopes within the Saint-Amour cru, the “Côtes de Besset” parcel lies just on the cusp of Burgundy and Beaujolais, giving the wine a naturally refined, Pinot-like character. Certified organic and farmed biodynamically, the Gamay is harvested by hand and fermented with native yeasts using semi-carbonic maceration, followed by aging in neutral barrels. The 2023 vintage showcases purity and finesse, reflecting a cooler season that favored freshness and aromatic lift. The result is an articulate, terroir-driven wine that straddles fruit and structure with ease. Ideal alongside duck confit, roast chicken with tarragon, or lentils with root vegetables.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Domaine de Fa is the Beaujolais-based project of brothers Maxime and Antoine Graillot, best known for their work in Crozes-Hermitage. Drawn to the energy and potential of Gamay, they purchased Domaine de Fa in 2013 and have since become key voices in the new wave of Beaujolais. Farming is fully organic with biodynamic principles, and their approach in the cellar favors low intervention, native fermentations, and aging in used oak and concrete. Their wines—spread across Fleurie, Saint-Amour, and beyond—are known for their clarity, subtle power, and tension. “Côtes de Besset” in particular highlights their talent for coaxing purity and depth from high-elevation, granite-rich terroir.
