2023 Domaine Julien Cécillon Crozes-Hermitage "Les Marguerites", Rhône Valley, France
ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from select parcels within Crozes-Hermitage in the northern Rhône Valley, “Les Marguerites” is crafted from 100% Syrah grown on granite-based soils with pockets of clay and alluvial influence. The 2023 vintage reflects a growing season that favored balanced ripening, preserving aromatic intensity while achieving full phenolic maturity.
In the glass, the wine reveals lifted notes of blackberry, blueberry skin, and cassis intertwined with violet, black pepper, and hints of cured meat and graphite. Fermentation typically incorporates partial whole clusters to enhance aromatic complexity and structure, followed by aging in a combination of neutral oak barrels and larger demi-muids to preserve fruit clarity while refining texture.
The result is a medium- to full-bodied wine with firm yet polished tannins and refreshing acidity, showcasing both depth and energy. It beautifully expresses the hallmark savory character of northern Rhône Syrah—earthy, floral, and subtly smoky.
Food pairings: grilled lamb chops with rosemary, duck breast with blackberry reduction, lentil and herb stew, charcuterie, or aged tomme-style cheeses.
