2023 Les Petites Sardines Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie, Loire Valley, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

Crafted from 100% Melon de Bourgogne, this Muscadet hails from the Sèvre et Maine subregion—renowned for producing the most expressive and age-worthy examples of the style. The vines grow on gneiss and mica-schist soils near the Atlantic coast, imparting a distinct mineral edge. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is aged sur lie (on its lees) for several months, building texture and depth while preserving razor-sharp freshness.

The 2023 vintage is especially vibrant, offering a lip-smacking profile of citrus, sea spray, and faint almond notes from lees contact. Exceptionally food-friendly, it’s a natural fit for oysters, clams, and mussels, but also elevates simple grilled fish, chèvre, or light salads with its mouthwatering acidity and delicate texture.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Les Petites Sardines is a label by Vignobles Gunther-Chereau, a family-run estate based in the heart of Muscadet country. The winery is known for its deep commitment to traditional Muscadet winemaking, working with sustainably farmed old vines rooted in ancient metamorphic soils near the village of Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine.

The playful label belies the serious quality inside the bottle—wines that are honest, precise, and deeply reflective of their Atlantic-influenced terroir. With a focus on freshness, purity, and approachability, Les Petites Sardines captures the essence of Muscadet: unpretentious, thirst-quenching, and inseparably linked to the sea.
