2023 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles", Burgundy, France
ABOUT THE WINE
The Les Pucelles vineyard lies just below the Grand Crus Bâtard- and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, sharing their prized southeast exposure and stony, limestone-rich soils. This privileged location produces wines of both concentration and finesse, often considered among the finest Premier Crus of Chassagne. The 2023 vintage, marked by balanced ripening conditions, yielded fruit with ideal maturity and crystalline acidity.
Hand-harvested Chardonnay grapes are gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts before aging in French oak barrels (approximately 25–35% new) for 12–15 months. Lees aging enhances texture and aromatic complexity without overshadowing the terroir’s inherent clarity.
The resulting wine is both voluptuous and refined: orchard and citrus fruits framed by floral lift and a whisper of spice, underpinned by a distinctive saline minerality. Its texture is creamy yet taut, giving it both immediate charm and impressive aging potential of 12–15 years or more.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Domaine Marc Morey & Fils, anchored in Chassagne-Montrachet, is a historic family domaine renowned for its precision-crafted Chardonnays. Founded in the early 20th century, the estate is now led by Sabine Mollard, representing the fourth generation of the Morey family.
The domaine farms around 9 hectares across Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Grand Cru vineyards, with a deep respect for soil health and sustainable practices. Meticulous vineyard care, manual harvesting, and restrained yields ensure purity of fruit. In the cellar, gentle pressing, natural fermentations, and judicious oak élevage allow terroir to take center stage.
Among its portfolio, Les Pucelles stands out as a jewel—combining the depth and texture reminiscent of neighboring Grand Crus with the elegance and finesse that make it one of Chassagne’s most coveted Premier Crus.
