2023 Weingut Bastgen "Blauschiefer" Riesling, Mosel, Germany
ABOUT THE WINE
The “Blauschiefer” Riesling is sourced from steep, terraced vineyards in the Middle Mosel, where the vines cling to blue slate (blauschiefer) soils that impart a cool, mineral signature to the wine. The 2023 vintage was marked by a long, temperate growing season, yielding grapes with exceptional aromatic clarity and natural acidity. Fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged on the fine lees, the wine shows classic Mosel traits: green apple, Meyer lemon, and hints of wild herbs, underpinned by a crystalline structure. Its featherlight body and steely backbone make it a versatile partner for dishes like ceviche, fresh goat cheese, or spicy Asian fare.
