2024 Domaine Lapierre Morgon “Cuvée Marcel Lapierre”, Beaujolais, France

ABOUT THE WINE

The Cuvée Marcel Lapierre is made only in select vintages and represents the pinnacle of the domaine’s holdings in Morgon’s Côte du Py and surrounding granitic slopes. Sourced from centenarian Gamay vines (planted between 1910 and 1914), this cuvée is vinified with the same rigor that defined Marcel Lapierre’s natural wine legacy. Grapes are farmed organically (uncertified) with strict attention to biodiversity and soil vitality.

Vinification follows traditional Beaujolais methods: whole-cluster, semi-carbonic maceration using only native yeasts, with minimal sulfur or none at all, depending on the bottling. Aging takes place in used Burgundy barrels, allowing for gentle oxidation and the development of complex tertiary notes. The 2024 vintage, marked by a warm growing season balanced by cool nights, brings exceptional ripeness with poise, making this release both immediately expressive and cellar-worthy.

Pair it with roast duck, lentils with wild mushrooms, or aged tomme cheese. This cuvée is best enjoyed with a light chill in youth or aged for a decade or more to explore its full aromatic depth.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Domaine Lapierre is a cornerstone of the natural wine movement and a benchmark in Beaujolais. Founded by Marcel Lapierre, who took over the family estate in 1973, the domaine became globally renowned in the 1980s when Marcel, inspired by Jules Chauvet, turned toward organic farming, native yeast fermentation, and no sulfur additions—practices that were revolutionary at the time.

Now run by Marcel’s children, Mathieu and Camille Lapierre, the domaine continues its commitment to minimal intervention and the honest expression of terroir. All vineyards are organically farmed, and winemaking remains steadfastly low-intervention, producing wines that are vibrant, transparent, and full of life.

Cuvée Marcel Lapierre is their most profound bottling—crafted as an homage to Marcel’s vision, and a vivid encapsulation of Morgon’s depth, energy, and aging potential.
