2024 Kir-Yianni Akakies Sparkling Rosé, Amydeon, Macedonia, Greece

ABOUT THE WINE
Made from 100% Xinomavro grown in the cool, high-altitude vineyards of Amydeon—Greece’s only PDO for rosé wines—the 2024 Akakies Sparkling Rosé showcases the grape’s natural acidity and aromatic precision. Hand-harvested from sandy, poor soils at 700 meters above sea level, the grapes retain their freshness and expressive character. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel before secondary fermentation in bottle (traditional method), followed by lees aging to enhance texture and finesse.

The wine opens with floral and red fruit aromatics, evolving into layered flavors of cranberry, rhubarb, and blood orange. Its racy acidity and persistent mousse are supported by a savory edge that hints at the region’s volcanic subsoils. Ideal with grilled octopus, tuna tartare, or Mediterranean meze, this sparkling rosé is as much a celebration wine as it is a gastronomic partner.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Founded by Yiannis Boutaris in 1997, Kir-Yianni blends modern innovation with a deep respect for Northern Greece’s winemaking traditions. Based in both Naoussa and Amydeon, the estate focuses on indigenous varieties—particularly Xinomavro—across diverse terroirs. In Amydeon, Greece’s highest-elevation viticultural zone, organic farming and minimal intervention highlight purity and site expression.

Under the leadership of Stellios Boutaris, the estate balances scientific precision with a hands-off philosophy that lets the vineyard speak. Kir-Yianni is a pioneer in elevating Greek sparkling wine and continues to redefine the possibilities of Xinomavro through wines like Akakies—fresh, expressive, and unmistakably Greek.
