2024 Lady of the Sunshine Pinot Noir "Bassi Vineyard", SLO Coast, California, USA

ABOUT THE WINE

This Pinot Noir is sourced from the Bassi Vineyard, an organically and biodynamically farmed site just over a mile from the Pacific Ocean near Avila Beach. The marine sedimentary soils and persistent coastal influence create a cool, slow-ripening environment ideal for preserving freshness and aromatic delicacy. In 2024, grapes were harvested early, partially destemmed, and fermented with native yeasts in open-top fermenters. The wine was aged in neutral French oak barrels for 9 months and bottled unfined, unfiltered, with minimal sulfur. The resulting profile is light-bodied yet deeply expressive, showing red cherry, briny herbs, forest floor, and citrus peel. It pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, duck with pomegranate, or earthy vegetarian dishes.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Lady of the Sunshine is the solo project of Gina Giugni, a second-generation biodynamic farmer and one of California’s most compelling voices in regenerative viticulture. Working with vineyards that are either certified biodynamic or actively farmed using regenerative practices, Gina produces wines that are vibrant, transparent, and grounded in ecological integrity. The Bassi Vineyard bottlings are among her most personal, sourced from the windswept slopes she helped bring into biodynamic certification. With Pinot Noir, she showcases the grape’s light, savory, and high-acid potential in the cool SLO Coast—eschewing ripeness for clarity, and power for quiet depth.
