ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from a mosaic of old-vine parcels in the Val do Salnés subzone—Rías Baixas’ coolest and most coastal area—“Leirana” is a deeply terroir-driven Albariño that stands apart from the typical fresh-and-fruity mold. The 2024 vintage benefited from a long, cool growing season, preserving aromatic complexity and natural acidity. Grapes were hand-harvested and gently pressed, then fermented with native yeasts in a mix of stainless steel and old, large-format oak foudres. The wine aged on its lees for several months without bâtonnage, lending texture and depth without obscuring its precise, marine character. Expect flavors of citrus peel, white peach, sea spray, and flint, with a fine phenolic grip and subtle bitter lift. Excellent with razor clams, Galician octopus, or aged Manchego, and built to evolve over 5–8 years.

Forjas del Salnés is one of the most exciting producers in Rías Baixas, led by winemaker Rodrigo Méndez in collaboration with Raúl Pérez. Based in the village of Meaño, the winery has been instrumental in redefining Albariño as a serious, age-worthy white capable of expressing terroir with Burgundian precision. Farming is sustainable and often organic, with a strong focus on old vines—many ungrafted—and granitic soils that impart tension and minerality. In the cellar, low-intervention techniques preserve purity: spontaneous fermentations, minimal sulfur, and gentle élevage in used wood. “Leirana” is the estate’s entry-point Albariño, but it overdelivers with depth, precision, and unmistakable coastal identity.
