Jacquesson "Cuvée 742" Extra Brut, Champagne, France

ABOUT THIS WINE

All of the best juice goes into this single cuvée. In exceptional years they also bottle up to four highly sought-after single-vineyard cuvées. 31 hectares of vineyards in the Grande Vallée and Côte des Blancs.

2014, our harvest from Aÿ, Dizy & Hautvillers (59%), and from Avize & Oiry (41%). Winter was rainy and exceptionally mild, spring was hot and very dry, whilst July and August were cool and very wet. A hot, dry and sunny September saved the year. The balance of alcohol and acidity was excellent and the health of the grapes was generally good. However, after picking, rigorous sorting of some parcels affected by small sources of acid rot was necessary. As a result, the Chardonnays were superb, and the Meuniers, but above all the Pinot Noirs, held their own. The blend is completed with the addition of some reserve wines.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCER

Until 1999, Non-Vintage Brut reigned supreme over all Champagne. A convention of homogeneity which tied the hands of those who made the wines. And then, everything changed.

The Domaine then proclaimed its independence, illustrated in this Manifesto of the 700 : to make the best possible blend each year. Plots, grape varieties, terroir, human heart and soul: the whole estate had to come together in one bottle, in the spirit of a vintage, with reserve wines, for a single Champagne, each year different, each year sublimated.

Never exactly the same, nor completely different.

Our revolution took the world by surprise but quickly won followers when they were presented with the results.

Since then, every bottle proclaims its independence with the three digits of its birth, starting with the 728th Cuvée from the Domaine.
