The NV Yalumba “Antique Muscat” from Eden Valley (South Australia) is a sumptuous fortified dessert wine produced by Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family‑owned winery, established in 1849 and today managed by the Hill‑Smith family. Drawing from their rich tradition in fortified wines, Yalumba releases this wine occasionally as a “museum reserve” style from specially selected late‑harvest Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains grapes (including red, brown, and black mutations) grown in both Eden Valley and Rutherglen regions.
The wine is produced by fermenting shrivelled, partially raisined berries briefly on their skins to maximize flavor extraction, then fortifying with neutral grape spirit to halt fermentation and retain intense natural sweetness. It’s aged in hogsheads and barriques for up to 10 years, and vintage lots are blended to maintain consistency and complexity across releases. The result is a tawny-amber elixir.
