2019 Scribe Pinot Noir, Sonoma County, California, USA
ABOUT THIS WINE
In 2007 we began farming this vineyard one mile from the Scribe Estate. Planted in equal parts Martini and Pommard clones, the vineyard's Huichica loam soil and cool Carneros climate ripen this fruit at a steady, gradual pace.
A cold winter with average rainfall delayed typical bud break by a couple of weeks. The dry and warm spring that followed hastened the vines' growth and a temperate summer provided an ideal condition for the start of veraison. Late summer heat waves prompted an early harvest beginning on August 13th.
Each individual parcel was fermented spontaneously in open fermenters with varied degrees of whole clusters. Malolactic spontaneous. Maturation took place for 7 months in 10% concrete / 15% new French oak / 75% neutral French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Scribe Winery in Sonoma, Calif. produces vibrant, terroir-driven wines.
The winery–founded in 2007 on a property that pioneered pre-prohibition Sonoma Valley winemaking–is managed by fourth-generation California farmers and brothers, Andrew and Adam Mariani.
Andrew and Adam believe that the best wines are a result of a healthy relationship between man and nature, and that a vineyard managed in harmony with the greater ecosystem results in more site-specific wines that represent a sense of time and place. When vinified with non-interventionist methods, the result is a distinct wine that faithfully reflects what the vineyard naturally expresses.
