2010 Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

ABOUT THE WINE

Classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855, Château Pontet-Canet has long punched above its ranking, and in 2010, it produced one of the most celebrated wines of the vintage. Situated next to Mouton Rothschild in the heart of Pauillac, the estate has been farmed biodynamically since the early 2000s—a rarity among top Bordeaux châteaux.

The 2010 is a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, and small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes were hand-harvested and vinified with minimal intervention, including concrete vats and amphorae for fermentation and aging alongside traditional oak barrels.

This vintage is noted for its incredible concentration, freshness, and harmony. Deeply layered and age-worthy, it shows textbook Pauillac character: cassis, pencil shavings, dark chocolate, and crushed rock. Decant if drinking now, or cellar for another 10–25 years.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Château Pontet-Canet is one of Bordeaux’s most progressive and admired estates, led by Alfred Tesseron and his team. Since transitioning to biodynamic viticulture in 2004, the estate has become a model for sustainable excellence in the Médoc. The team’s commitment to low yields, manual work, and ecological balance has resulted in wines of exceptional depth and precision. The 2010 vintage is a landmark—combining natural vitality with classic structure in a way few Bordeaux wines achieve.
