2019 Famille J-M Cazes by Lynch Bages Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from select parcels in Pauillac under the stewardship of the Cazes family, this wine is a modern expression rooted in classicism. 2019 was a superb vintage in Bordeaux, marked by warm days and cool nights that allowed for even ripening and complexity in the fruit. The wine blends predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc, vinified traditionally and aged in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to lend structure without overwhelming the fruit. Expect aromas of blackberry compote, cigar box, and crushed rock, followed by flavors of ripe cassis, dried herbs, and cocoa-dusted tannins. Its balance of concentration and finesse makes it both cellar-worthy and enjoyable now with proper decanting. Pair with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, or aged Comté.
