2023 Forge Cellars "Caywood Vineyard" Chardonnay, Finger Lakes, New York, USA

ABOUT THE WINE
Sourced from the historic Caywood Vineyard along the east side of Seneca Lake, this Chardonnay reflects the region’s glacial soils and cooling lake influence. The wine shows a balance of ripeness and restraint, with notes of crisp apple, pear, lemon curd, and delicate florals framed by a distinct mineral backbone.

Forge Cellars follows a low-intervention philosophy, fermenting with native yeasts and aging the wine in a mix of neutral oak and stainless steel to preserve freshness while building texture. The style is inspired by Burgundy, focusing on purity, structure, and vineyard expression rather than oak influence.

The 2023 vintage is already expressive but will continue to evolve over the next 5–8 years. It pairs well with roasted chicken, freshwater fish, creamy risottos, and goat cheese, where its acidity and minerality complement the dish.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Forge Cellars is a partnership between French winemaker Louis Barruol of Château de Saint Cosme and American partners Richard Rainey and Justin Boyette. The winery is dedicated to expressing the unique terroir of the Finger Lakes through site-specific wines.

Working closely with growers around Seneca Lake, Forge emphasizes sustainable farming and thoughtful vineyard management. Their approach combines Old World tradition with New World clarity, focusing on Riesling and Chardonnay to produce wines that are precise, elegant, and deeply connected to place.
